Soccer is alive and kicking in the Real North! Over 600 clubs with almost 160,000 registered players are all part of the most northerly soccer family in Germany – the home of the current world champions. This patchwork team of soccer enthusiasts whose clubs add a passionate touch of sporting style to the many pitches between the North and Baltic Sea – from the North-Frisian islands to the beaches of Fehmarn – belongs to the Schleswig-Holstein Soccer Association (SHFV).
In line with the structural reform of the soccer league system and following a resolution passed at an association congress, SHFV was Germany’s first regional soccer association to introduce a practice called ‘flexible game operation’ at the start of the 2017/18 season which ensures the fair distribution of clubs to all divisions according to their geographical proximity.
As a result, the league for the current season is no longer split into divisions based on local soccer association boundaries but solely on the actual mileage between teams that play in them. Divisional assignments occur annually taking respective team registrations into account.
When it comes to calculating the divisions according to these particulars, SHFV has found an ideal partner in FAST LEAN SMART GmbH (FLS). On behalf of SHFV, FLS developed a tailored software solution for assigning teams to soccer divisions in Schleswig-Holstein. Based on the home grounds of the clubs, the software uses actual driving distances to set out the divisions in the fairest possible way at every league level. To SHFV page [german language|
