The Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering and Information (IAO) is one of the pioneers and leading institutions in the field of services research for enterprises and institutions in the German economy. As a member of international networks, the institute researches societal and technological trends and future issues with an aim to identify business processes and models as well as service products that ensure a long-term competitive position for service-oriented enterprises.
By putting this applied research into practice, Fraunhofer IAO is available to assist and advise enterprises with interdisciplinary teams made up of business experts, economists, computer scientists, engineers, social scientists, and natural scientists. Since 2006, the institute has had the ServLab, which provides enterprises with a one-of-a-kind platform for the development and testing of new services in a realistic context.
In researching technological trends and future issues, the Fraunhofer Institute has focused amongst other things on the major issues of digitization and smart technology. With FLS VISITOUR a one-of-a-kind system for real-time scheduling and route planning, FLS GmbH also aims to optimize its customers’ service processes with future-oriented technology. This is why FLS GmbH and Fraunhofer want to work closer together in the future, particularly on developing service reference processes. Their goal is to better synchronize technology and process development in order to provide companies with optimal solutions for field service support.
